Rules for using BuildRank, the free UK home improvement guide. It offers no building advice, quotes or site visits.
Who these terms cover
They cover everyone who uses BuildRank (buildrank.co.uk), a free guide to home improvement companies across the United Kingdom. Using the site means accepting them.
No professional advice
BuildRank gives no building, structural, surveying, legal or financial advice. Its lists are a starting point for a shortlist. They cannot tell you what your home needs, and they are no substitute for a survey, a structural engineer, Building Control or the council’s planning department.
Our role
We do no building work, prepare no quotes, arrange no visits and charge readers nothing. We make no promises about any company’s prices, availability, quality of work or guarantees. Contracts for work, and any loan or finance used to pay for it, are made between you and the company or lender. As owner of the property, you are responsible for making sure the work has whatever planning permission and Building Regulations approval it needs.
How the lists are made
Each list is built from public information, such as the work a company describes, the area it serves, its contact details and what its customers say, judged by the method on our How we select page. A Top plan moves a company to a prominent spot and a Pro plan adds to its page, and both are labelled. Paying for a plan is not a sign that we have checked or approve of a company.
Before you hire
We review the lists regularly, yet numbers, hours, services and scheme memberships can change between reviews. Confirm them with the company, search the registers that apply to your job, such as FENSA, Certass, TrustMark or Gas Safe Register, and have the quote, the guarantee and the payment stages set out in writing before work begins.
Rules for company pages
Claiming a page means confirming you are authorised to manage it and that what you add is true. Companies answer for the content of their own pages, which must respect consumer protection law and the UK advertising codes. No page may claim a scheme membership, accreditation or guarantee the company does not have, or promise results. We can edit or remove content that breaks these rules. Prohibited use
Do not use BuildRank for unlawful purposes, harvest its lists with bots or scripts, try to get into areas that are not public, pass yourself off as someone else or another company, or send false information.
Intellectual property
The BuildRank name, its design and texts, its selection method and the order of its lists belong to the owner of the site or are used with permission. Linking to any page is welcome, as is quoting a short extract with a credit. Anything more needs our permission in writing.
Liability and law
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, BuildRank accepts no responsibility for the work of the companies listed, for what they publish or for external websites we link to. English and Welsh law governs these terms, and consumers in Scotland or Northern Ireland may also use the courts where they live. We may revise these terms. The text on this page at the time of your visit is the one that applies.
